I Can't Believe How Easy This Is! Crossing the Channel in a PA28
Excellent video Noel! I know I'm way late with this, but did your instructor ever tell you why he wanted you to say "awaiting IFR release" at a towered airport? Tower knows that you're on an IFR flight plan, the ground controller handed them a flight strip showing that you were IFR, so that's a bit redundant to say "awaiting IFR release" as tower knows that. The only time you need to explicitly call for IFR release is if you're at an un-towered airport and are calling the overlying ATC or FSS (depending on location). I know most controllers would rather you just call them an advise "Ready for departure" instead. Many towers also have a "rolling release" authorization, so they're allowed to depart IFR flights without getting an explicit IFR release from the TRACON/ARTCC for their departures as long as certain criteria are met (like they're not launching 2 aircraft on the same departure route back-to-back without a certain in-trail separation guaranteed). I've done all my Instrument training except for the final checkride, so I'm hoping that in the not too distant future to be able to do my remedial flying to get hours and updates so I can try and finally get my Instrument Ticket after almost 20 years. :)
I see other instruments moving more than usual and that means vibration. Why? How many hours on the engine? Anyone check the compressions to see how different they are?
I'm watching what I would call the fuel pressure gauge bounding around all over the place. I have never seen that before and I have over 2,000 hours in a PA-28R-201 1977 model. I am suspect to think there is something going on with the engine fuel pump. I see the electric fuel pump is on and that should have steadied any fuel pressure issues but it has not. I think someone needs to check out that erratic fuel pump pressure before it goes to zero.
I usually watch you flying round the world. Not sure why I was surprised that you have a pilots licence. Great to see your son enjoying the flight with you.
excellent informative entertaining video you guys rock!
Loved that, thanks so much.
I did my first 13 hours flight training at Barton in the late 90s. I then finished off my PPL at Space Coast regional in Florida, and my American instructor there was baffled at how someone with my limited experience could land in such a short amount of runway. Barton, it’s like landing in someone’s back yard compared to the massive local strips they have in the US, especially runway 32.
Awesome!!!!! I drove from Dallas to Waco many years ago, this video has inspired me to now do it with MSFS. Thank goodness for MSFS; it is the only way I will be able to “fly” something like a Cessna 172 solo from Dallas to Waco. Great to see someone out there flying solo for real! Thanks!❤
you've got loose sheet metal between wing and strut.... looks like all the rivets are out 2:05
i find the sr20 quite forgiving to land as long as you're not to fast when crossing the threshold. Low 80's at most.
why no vids in 5 months?
Hopefully your schedule will soon allow you to film some more aviation adventures for us!
Loved that you were so engrossed in landing from the EFATO. I was the same in my Skill Test! Tuned in the find some tips on PA28, just about to differences from C152 😃. Thanks for a great vid.
What's with the music?
Good video but terrible conclusion :) you pay £ for character (grass) , terrible facilities and services. Just accept that US is wat better. Dont have to be politically correct, its aviation. I am from UK FYI
Great flying Noel.😊
Cheers for the guidance Noel! Applied for my UK PPL to FAA verification this week and it took a grand total of 3days to complete the process, result!😆
Came across from your travel vlogs , absolutely loved this , just to watch a dad and a son interact . Your little lad reminds me of my oldest son and how we used to interact with each other , my lad 19 now and turned into a lovely young man , but this made me miss the days when he was this age . Great video , treasure days like these and having them on camera , amazing x
Millions of people fly every 24 hours. Pilots and passengers. Military or civilian How many people die every YEAR ? 1000 ? 1500? Of aviation related incidents? There is no safer mode of transportation. How many people lose their lives daily in car accidents ? 100.000 ? Per day? Around the world ! Let us not make this any worse then it is.
So you didn't show us the flight prep and what you suppose to see in your instruments when flying IR
In 1978, I had my first solo flight in a PA-28. It was 2 hours before the DMV opened in Illinois, so I was able to fly a plane by myself before getting a driver's license.
After watching this... I'll stick with Microsoft Flight Sim!
Blessings and love to all those who have passed. You will be fine always Noel, the light is shining on you and it’s bright. You are protected. Much love..
Now this is why I have to get my licence before I have kids. So that I can take them on adventures, see the land from up high.
Lol
We all will cry when noel says buy to youtube ...hopefully not anytime soon
Did you get ya bags back btw after left in syd by air calin??😮
This is inspiring!
Hello, I am an aspiring pilot, thank you for the video. I noticed at 1:33 that the left strut fairing, where it attaches to the wing, appears to be loose and is moving quite a bit in the airflow. This may not be an issue, but I thought I would mention it.
Just started my PPL at gamston
how many miles is that?
'Aw Right"
All Riiiiiigght!
Awesome m8! I have my flight rewiew in 4 days in Cali as an EASA holder. Any more advice or where to look things and diffrences up?
The thing about owning an airplane, IF it starts, it needs to go to the shop after the flight; if it doesn't, you've overlooked something.
A bit late to this video as I had a "blackout" period on UA-cam so I'm trying to catch up. Great to see you moving into the HP birds. If you've got time in a 172, the whole reason behind the HP endorsement becomes *very* clear when you transition to the 182 and try shoving the throttle forward instead of easing it up. The amount of work your right leg does is *much* different than the 172. I'm told the SR20 -> SR22 transition is similar in that way as well. Other than the slightly higher speeds for the HP aircraft, it's really that Torque & P-Factor that gets your attention with higher HP aircraft. Now we just need to get you hooked up with one of the Commemorative Air Force units in the Houston area and put you in a T-6 to feel what 600 HP feels like.
If I see already this papers on his knees 😂😂😂😂 moron alarm ☻️🎅🤘
Wow, he cant even land a simple cirrus 😂😂😂 if the genetic doesnt fit beeing a pilot dont force it !!
Having been in a major car accident less than a year ago, it gave me perspective.. you never know when your time is up and you really do have to live life to it's fullest.. Im so happy that you get to do what you love to do for a living. Someday I wish I will be able to work for a passion rather than a paycheck but happy for you. Thanks for all the videos
This is such a cool video. Love the music also.
I live half an hour from Wellesbourne
Come up to the Nebraska Sandhills some time!!! Most beautiful secrete in the US!! (Even Jack Nicholus said - he designed a golf course there)
Two dislikes. Trevor Jordan and his Mum do not like this video.
My home Airfield is sleap! Top class airfield. By the way, its shrew
Great video, beautiful countryside and great job! Constructive critique (hopefully), Don't forget to fly the airplane to the tie-down- position the controls appropriately during taxi in a strong wind.
Hi Noel, will there be more adventures shared on this channel? I, for one, hope so
Great video Noel, love all your adventures. I shall be recommencing flying after a 40 odd year hiatus this coming year and I hope to resume my flying at Gamston. I live in Newark on Trent so Gamston seems like a good choice. On this trip of yours to Cromer I saw you pass Northcoates near Grimsby and N-coates is one of the many places I intend to visit because my late dad was stationed there during WW11. He was then with RAF Coastal Command and was part of 254 sqdn who were equipped with the Bristol Beaufighters. So many airfields on my wish list including : Carnarvon, Sandown, Bembridge and Lee on Solent to name a few and of course, Le Touquet. Love your channel Noel and always look forward to your stuff. Take care.
Aviation is so safe. More people die driving to the airport...
The instrument panel coaming is painted flat black for a reason, namely to minimise INTERNAL REFLECTIONS - yet you left your checklist there, in bright sunlight, for the entire flight, increasing the chances of putting your prop through a marker board on the ground or through another a/c in flight and making it harder to see your destination! STOP IT! It's a terrible example to set others and one with the potential to kill.
You're right. I am based in the Pittsburgh area. While I was talking to Roanoke approach, a friend was coming across my path and his passenger was my old instructor. Suddenly I hear "Is that you, Howard?" I didn't reply because I know my voice is distinctive (so was his) and it was an approach frequency. He was flying from eastern NC to Pittsburgh. I was flying from Danville VA to the DC area. Both of us were flying animal rescues that day. So it is definitely a small community.
